We can assume that in 1992 Alice in Chains was already ripe for the performance of “unplugged”. This EP represents a small collection of songs performed mainly on acoustics, and is the group’s first experience in recording such material. At that time, such songs, apparently, were knocked out of the general concept of recorded albums, so, probably, it was decided to release this EP. As a result, it turned out to be a rather attractive little thing that showed the group’s creativity from a new perspective, several years ahead of the fashion for such things. Very good material, listening to which you do not strain at all. In general, unpretentious music sounds very "American", with a contemplative mood, and is perfect for spending an evening at sunset with a glass of whiskey on the terrace. This is modern American folk, so to speak. The true gem is the melancholy “Am I Inside”, adorned with the magnificent singing of Lane Staley. His amazing voice control is truly mesmerizing. One of the most sincere things in the work of the group. Which is very important, all the songs have an inherent sound dynamics. I mean, the sound is quieter - louder, which gives the music a variety and a more natural shade. This is something that today is almost destroyed by studio twists. But the so-called bonus can be regarded as an outright banter over the grind. Against the background of the sounds of the salon piano, we hear the vocalist howling, interspersed with coughing, croaking and farting to the beat of the music. At the next moment, all this breaks down into a crazy blast beat against the background of a voice passed through a megaphone. And everything is executed on acoustics (!). In general, you can safely consider "Sap" the prototype of the magnificent "Jar of Flies", a kind of breakdown of the pen. Such music exists outside the stylistic framework, it is good in itself, without hanging labels. Once again I was convinced how grunge could be creative. It is a pity that for the majority this style is associated with only two or three Nirvana songs ...

VERY GOOD EP - Layne Staley and guitarist Jerry Cantrell showed everyone-should pay attention to their songs-and it showed later - I recommend
