The ghostly sound of Skip James' voice is as haunting as the mist over the Mississippi Delta, and it is these recordings-dating from 1930 and long hard-to-find in this country-that are the source of his legend. This 18-track album marks the first appearance of such classics as Devil Got My Woman; I'm So Glad; 32-20 Blues; Cypress Grove Blues, and many more-absolutely essential.

The mention of 1930 on the cover is in error. All titles were recorded 1931 in Grafton, WI at a session for Paramount. Original recordings from the collections of Rich Nevins, Pete Whelan and Gayle Wardlow.
