 | Description: | The Depression is a tough time to fall in love, but young Marje Harris (Ginger Rogers) and her gas-jockey beau Blacky Gorman (Joel McCrea) take their chance at heaven. The two plan a future together until a spoiled society girl (Marian Nixon) moves to town, flips over handsome Blacky and dazzles the hapless chump. Marje stands aside - then stands up when the new Mr. And Mrs. Gorman need a friend. Rogers was two months away from her star making debut as Fred Astaire's dance partner in Flying Down to Rio when this pre-Code drama hit the Bijous. In a performance touched with humor and gallantry, the actress on her way to becoming an icon of Golden Age musicals showed she would also be one of the era's finest dramatic stars."Chance at Heaven" is a classic romantic drama film released in 1933 by the renowned studio RKO Pictures, now available on DVD. The story follows Blacky, a small-town garage owner whose life takes an unexpected turn when he falls for and marries the sophisticated Glory Franklyn. Their whirlwind romance faces challenges as differences in background and expectations come to light, making this film a poignant exploration of love and ambition during the early 20th century.
RKO Pictures was one of Hollywood's legendary studios during cinema?s Golden Age, producing iconic films such as "King Kong," "Citizen Kane," and "Bringing Up Baby." Known for their innovation and artistic risk-taking, RKO helped shape modern filmmaking with their diverse catalog.
The film stars Ginger Rogers as Glory Franklyn?an actress celebrated for her dynamic performances in classics like "Top Hat," "Swing Time," and her Academy Award-winning role in "Kitty Foyle." Opposite her is Joel McCrea as Blacky; McCrea enjoyed a prolific career starring in hits such as ?Sullivan?s Travels? and ?The More the Merrier.? Director William A. Seiter brought his deft touch to numerous comedies and musicals throughout Hollywood?s golden era, including ?Roberta? (also with Rogers) and ?Room Service.? Supporting cast members include Marian Nixon?a popular leading lady of early talkies?and Andy Devine, known for his distinctive voice across decades of Westerns. | | Actors: |
