Alexander S. - 26/May/2020 The album continues the line of "Mesmerize". There are a lot of unusual solutions for nu metal in it, making the work of the group very non-standard within the framework of the genre. Compared to earlier albums (thrash riffs and growling), "Hypnotize" is pretty easy. The role of the second vocalist has noticeably increased - he is present in almost every song, and often in the foreground. In my opinion, his voice is worse than Tankian, but his shrill hysterical screams interweave well in the SoaD tunes. In the music itself, ethnic moments are often found. The guitar game is quite diverse, the rhythm is often quite fast and sophisticated. I especially liked the quick acoustic guitar playing (somewhat reminiscent of a balalaika) in the song "Soldier Side". Sometimes there are solos, though acoustic and not very complex ("Lonely Day", "Soldier Side").
In general, the album is just as cheerful and groovy (with the exception of the last 2 tracks - sad melancholy ballads), like the whole work of the group, although it is quite different from SoaD's early works. There were no past echoes of thrash, but the music was still pleasant. There are some pretty cool stuff, like a squeaky voice ("Stealing Society").
There are several ballads on the album. First of all, the pleasant and calm "Lonely Day" (although there is distortion and percussion in it), as well as "Holy Mountain" and the ending album "Soldier Side" - a really great end to the album.
