"Evolution" is the acclaimed 1979 album by American rock band Journey, presented here in CD format and released by Sbme Special Mkts. This record features some of Journey's most memorable tracks, including "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'," which became their first Top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The album showcases the band's signature blend of melodic rock and powerful vocals, led by frontman Steve Perry. With Neal Schon's dynamic guitar work and Jonathan Cain's keyboard artistry (joining later albums), Journey solidified their reputation as one of America's premier arena rock bands during this era. Sbme Special Mkts is known for delivering high-quality reissues and special editions, making classic albums accessible to new generations of listeners.
At that time, Evolution became Journey's most successful album in the charts (# 20), and also sold over three million copies in the United States. Drummer Ainsley Dunbar, who left the band shortly after the tour in honor of their previous album, Infinity, was replaced by former Montrose member Steve Smith.
The album contains Journey's first Top 20 hit in the US, "Lovin ', Touchin', Squeezin '," which was inspired by Sam Cook's song "Nothing Can Change This Love." "Lovin ', Touchin', Squeezin '" peaked at # 16 in the US. "Just the Same Way" was sung by original Journey vocalist Greg Raleigh alongside new one, Steve Perry. "Lovin ', Touchin', Squeezin '" also appears as part of "The Big Medley" on A Change of Seasons, an EP by Dream Theater.
