The album “Frontiers” by the wonderful AOR-band Journey fully secured its status as a super-group (in melodic rock, of course). The previous LP “Escape” was a great success, and on the wave of this success the band decided to strike while the iron was hot. As a result, we have an album that is in no way inferior to the previous masterpiece. The talents of the trio of musicians - Perry, Sean and Kane (vocals, guitar and keys respectively) are, as they say, undeniable here. It should be noted that the album turned out to be (musically) quite diverse: here you have great hard rock numbers, like “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” (which later became a classic “opener” for the band), “Edge of the Blade” (one of my favorite songs), the major “Rubicon” and “Chain Reaction” with an excellent main riff; and just really good, calm, melodic things like “After the Fall”, “Send Her My Love” (one of the greatest ballads I’ve ever heard) and “Faithfully” – these three songs were already aimed at a wide audience of listeners (in other words, they were commercial). The compositions “Troubled Child” (with a memorable keyboard interlude) and the self-titled “Frontiers” turned out to be interesting – both things have an art-rock tint. The re-released version of the record included bonuses that also deserve great attention (in particular, the songs “Only the Young” and “Ask the Lonely”). In general, this work is simply crammed with hits, and the commercial songs are not at all annoying, which is important. In general, a masterpiece
