Description:Johann Kaspar Kerll : Choral Music (Johann Rosenmuller Ensemble, Paduch) Artist: Johann Rosenmuller Great Album Cover. Johann Kaspar Kerll (1627-1693) was not unknown in the Baroque, as is evident from widely scattered transcriptions of his works, and he also exercised no small influence on Bach and Handel. Particularly interesting is the spiritual and musical field of tension in which the converted from the Protestant to the Catholic denomination, especially in Munich and Vienna moved. - The synthesis of Protestant inwardness and Catholic gesture, which is characteristic of Kerll, but also of Central German erudition and Italian splendor of sound, is only partly shown in the recording of the Johann Rosenmüller Ensemble. Technically speaking, apart from the vocal coloration of the countertenor, which takes some getting used to, everything is impeccable, and Arno Paduchs' expert interpretation does not lack a reasonable dose of virtuosity. Nevertheless, certain dimensions remain closed to the listener, be it the literally exorbitant jubilation of the triumphant sidera (verse 8), or the moving mysticism of Admiramini fideles (verse 12). - After all, this very neatly produced recording draws attention to a composer who should not be underestimated because of the high quality of his music. - Dr. Matthias Hengelbrock [22.07.2002]
