 | Description: | "Too Much Too Soon, the second studio album by the legendary New York Dolls was first released in the spring of 1974. The record was laid down in New York with producer Shadow Morton. Morton, known for his work with the Shangri-Las, was brought in to the project by David Johansen despite (or perhaps because) Johnny Thunders wanted to produce the album. Though their self-titled debut with Todd Rundgren at the helm had received high praise from critics, the Dolls didn't like Rundgren. And Rundgren had little respect for the Dolls. Thunders and Johansen thought Rundgren's production watered down their sound. Rundgren was no fan of the group's raucous sound and attitude, to the point that he's even alleged to have yelled at them 'get the glitter out of your asses and play!' With Morton behind the boards Too Much Too Soon incorporated many of his trademark production techniques, familiar to Shangri-Las fans, mainly his use of sounds effects such as gunshots and highly present female backing vocals. Too Much Too Soon was well received by critics and fans who praised the band's raw sound and felt that it was improved by Morton's production. Over the years the New York Dolls legacy has only grown larger.
- Judging from the title of their second album recorded in 1974, the NY Dolls understood their place in history perfectly. Punk rock had yet to break, and five cross-dressing, trash-talking rockers from the bowels of the Bowery had no place in the corporate music world, and yet the two albums by the NY Dolls are two of the most influential slabs of vinyl ever cut. Produced by George "Shadow" Morton (who during the sixties produced the legendary street tough & potty mouthed NY girl group the Shangri-La's)."Too Much Too Soon" by New York Dolls is a landmark LP that captures the raw energy and flamboyant style of one of proto-punk?s most influential bands. Released originally in 1974, this album features standout tracks like "Babylon," "Stranded in the Jungle," and "Puss 'n' Boots." The record showcases the Dolls? signature blend of glam rock swagger, punk attitude, and gritty rhythm & blues influences. This reissue comes from VINYL LOVERS, a label renowned for high-quality pressings and careful attention to classic albums across genres. VINYL LOVERS has built a reputation among audiophiles for reviving essential records with superior sound fidelity. The New York Dolls themselves are legendary figures in rock history; their provocative image and raucous performances paved the way for countless punk acts that followed. Their debut album was critically acclaimed, but it was with "Too Much Too Soon" that they solidified their cult status?making this LP an essential addition to any serious music collection. | | No. of tracks: |
