Ulrich Drechsler, Oliver Steger und Alex Deutsch verstehen sich als eine Art missing link zwischen analoger Instrumentation und digitaler Klangerzeugung. Dabei legen sie viel Wert darauf, als Band wahrgenommen zu werden, die es versteht, Instrumente zu spielen und nicht auf künstliche Sound-Reproduktion angewiesen ist. Grundlage ihres musikalischen Selbstverständnisses ist dabei der Jazz in all seinen Spielarten, mal verrucht-lockend, mal statisch-kühl. „Café Drechsler“ ist so durchaus als Schnittmenge von Miles Davis und Matthew Herbert zu verstehen, mit einem Plus an Leidenschaft, Vitalität und Beat.
