Description:
August electro-pop survivor John Foxx meets Jim Jupp and Jon Brooks' Belbury Circle on a rather special Ghost Box issue including a sublime Pye Corner Audio remix. We could think of few English vocalists more prepared and compatible with the Ghost Box lot than The Quiet Man, Mr John Foxx. His lucidly eloquent evocation of desolate streets 'Empty Avenues' is carefully framed by a woozy sort of eldritch electronic pastoralism in six parts, from the melancholic sashay of the title track to PYC's aerated slow/fast 'Empty Avenues and Dark Corners' take of the same, plotting an elegant course between the ascendant electro-waltzes of 'Almost There' and star-eyed mystery of 'The Right Path' to the late-summer sweetness of 'Suit' and the mannered, economical pop of 'The Time Of Your Life'. At times Foxx's vocals do overpower the fragility of Jupp and Brooks' production, yet ultimately the effect is haunting and peculiar.
