ESEWE is the debut album from Masai, led by twin brothers Ben and Peter Ndocko. The album carries the name of an ancenstral dance practiced by the Bantou Douala tribe well before the start of slave trading along the coast of Cameroon. Between traditional and contemporary influences, the music is partly inspired by the ritual burial ceremonies of ancient Africa, while at the same time reclaiming, with great panache, the fervor of the rhythm sections of ragga.
