The Brandenburg Concertos are a new recording, not the previously released 2000 recording. On this new recording, some cello parts are played by violinists using the violoncello da spalla ("shoulder cello") designed by Dmitry Badiarov.
Track durations taken from disc rather than booklet, as the booklet ignores long gaps at the end of each piece.
The booklet erroneously omits "assai" from the third movement of Concerto No. 2, and credits only "violino I, II" for three violinists on Concerto No. 3.The CD "Brandenburg Concertos/Orchestral Suites" by Masaaki Suzuki and Bach Collegium Japan, released by the renowned label BIS, presents a masterful interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach's most celebrated orchestral works. This recording captures the vibrant energy and intricate textures of the Brandenburg Concertos alongside the elegance and grandeur of the Orchestral Suites. The performances are characterized by historical authenticity, clarity, and expressive nuance that bring new life to these Baroque masterpieces. BIS Records is internationally acclaimed for its high-quality classical recordings, innovative programming, and commitment to sonic excellence. Founded in Sweden in 1973, BIS has become a leading independent classical music label with an extensive catalog featuring world-class artists.
Masaaki Suzuki is one of today's foremost interpreters of Baroque music. As founder and director of Bach Collegium Japan, he has received global recognition for his insightful readings of J.S. Bach?s vocal and instrumental repertoire.
