Description: | Classics is an album by Jon Mayer, released in 2023. The album is a jazz CD. - W/ RUFUS REID (BASS) & WILLIE JONES (DRUMS)Pianist Jon Mayer calls "The Classics," his second recording for Reservoir Music, "the next chapter in my playing evolution as I get to drill deeper into the mine looking for new nuggets." Here, he has selected 11 jazz standards to explore. Residing in Southern California since 1991, Mayer is frequently featured with his own trio and with a quartet which he co-leads with saxophonist Ernie Watts. His career started in New York City in the 1950's, where he played and recorded with many of the greats, including Jackie McClean, Kenny Dorham, John Coltrane, and Tony Scott, and it was during this vibrant time that many of the classics were written. On "The Classics," he's joined by bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Willie Jones III.Part of Reservoir Music's New York Piano Series
