| Description: | Sitarist Kalyani is one of the few major women instrumentalists in her genre, with a career spanning 50 years. She's a disciple of Vilayat Khan & has had training from others, including percussion genius Jnan Prakash Ghosh. Her immediately identifiable sitar tone is a unique variant of the Vilayatkhani sound, and her style mixes a vibrant rhythmic approach with Vilayat Khan's lyricism. Kalyani plays the morning raga "Ramkali" & a short semi-classical piece in the raga "Jogiya". She's joined by Samir Chatterjee on tabla.Recorded February 19, 1994.
