Description:Cardiffians is an album by Devine & Statton, released in 2006. The album is a pop CD. - 1990 ALBUM, FT. PETER HOOK (NEW ORDER/JOY DIVISION)
LTM is pleased to announce the reissue on CD of both albums by cult duo Devine & Statton, featuring vocalist Alison Statton (Young Marble Giants, Weekend) and guitarist Ian Devine (Ludus, Low Gods). Recorded in Brussels early in 1990, Cardiffians is the duo's second album. Most of the twelve tracks were written by Ian Devine, except Silence (cowritten with Alison) and their endearing cover of Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue. "Bittersweet songs about sunshine, rain, snapshots of the past, lovers and crests falling a polished gem" said Melody Maker, while the NME imagined "Everything But the Girl performing the Fifth Dimension's Up, Up and a way." Cardiffians features a fuller band sound that debut set the Prince of Wales. Guest musicians include bassist Peter Hook (of New Order), avant-garde guitarist Marc Ribot (Costello, T-Bone Burnett), and downtown New Yorkers Roy Nathanson and Curtis Fowlkes (of the Jazz Passengers) on saxophones and trombone. Long unavailable, the album was previously released on Les Disques du Crepuscu-le in 1990, and has now been digitally remastered with five bonus tracks (two of them previously unreleased). The CD also boasts upgraded artwork, archive photos and liner notes by writer/editor Everett True. Also available on L TM: The Prince of Wales (L TMCD 2433). 2006.
The second album from Alison Statton (Young Marble Giants, Weekend) and Ian Devine (Ludus), originally released on Les Disques du Crepuscule in 1990. Digitally remastered with five bonus tracks including unreleased material. Tracks 1 to 12 originally released as the LP/CD "Cardiffians" on Les Disques du Crepuscule (TWI 906) in October 1990. Recorded at Studio Square, Brussels, between December 1989 and May 1990. Track 11 recorded at Jet Studio, April 1989. In memory of Mark Derbyshire (1961-1989). Tracks 13 and 14 originally released on the CD single "Hideaway" (TWI 891) on Les Disques du Crepuscule in June 1990. Please note that track 13 has no connection at all with Devine & Statton, and its inclusion on TWI 891 remains a mystery. Tracks 15 and 16 are previously unreleased tracks from the "Cardiffians" sessions, mixed at The Music Box in 2005. Track 17 originally released as a single (TWI 895) on Les Disques du Crepuscule in June 1989.
