Released in 2014 through Napalm Records, “Motherload” is the third full-length album by the Swedish doom-rockers THE GRAVIATORS since the group’s inception in 2009. This four-piece (vocal-guitar-bass-drums) band blends Doom and Stoner Metal influences with classic Hard Rock of the 70’s and adds their own unique melodic and dynamic spins on things. They keep their sound fairly clean, yet not without vintage rawness and thickness of the old school’s hard-n-heavy. The album features guest appearance of Petrus Fredestad (known for his performances for First Band From Outer Space, Graveyard, Surreal Lovers, The Exorcist GBG) on Hammond organ, Wurlitzer piano, and synths; and he does an excellent job of adding definite flavor to the overall atmosphere of music. THE GRAVIATORS manage to catch a proper balance between romantic lyricism and overpowering heaviness on this album. With over 74 minutes for 9 tracks, there are no fillers or poorly dull songs on “Motherload”. Each song complements the album in one way or another, but of my personal favorites are the longest tracks like “Lost Lord”, “Eagles Rising”, and “Druid’s Ritual” (re-recorded version of the song featured on the 12” split-EP with Brutus) which include extensive instrumental psyche-swing jamming and stunning guitar impro-soloing. Summing up, if you like traditional melodic Doom-Metal with clean vocals, intricate guitar riff-work, mighty grooving and tempo shifting rhythm-section, this album won’t disappoint you.

Doom Metal,..so wie er sein soll, so wie er sein muss. Musikalisch super in Szene gesetzt, mit langsamen Passagen und Passagen zum inbrünstigen mistsingen!
