Beschreibung:On this recording, Scotland's modern-day troubadours Fires of Love follow King James VI on a varied journey through song and instrumental music. As the musicians deftly weave their way through Scotland's rich tapestry of historic manuscripts, they unveil attractive but unsophisticated melodies, often heavily imbued with the French style. On their arrival in London, James and his musicians would have been taken aback by the highly active theatre scene. Shakespeare's texts give rise to compelling settings, from the plaintive to risque. As the Scots courtier-musicians nimbly traded French influence for London's 'Englished' Italian style, one wonders: did they look homeward regretfully?, Runningtime: 00:00:00, Booklet Editor: Henry Howard (4), Cover [Cover Image: Dark Road]: Getty Images, Cover [Cover Image: Dark Road]: Valentin Casarsa, Design: Drew Padrutt, Edited By [24-Bit Digital Editing]: Adam Binks, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Lute, Guitar [4-Course Renaissance Guitar]: Gordon Ferries, Percussion: Marcus Claridge, Producer, Engineer, Mastered By [24-Bit Digital Mastering]: Paul Baxter, Recorder [s], Lute, Baritone Vocals, Liner Notes: Jonathan Hugh-Jones, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Composed By: Anonymous, Guitar [4-Course Renaissance Guitar]: Gordon Ferries, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Words By: William Shakespeare, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Score: Robert Gordon of Straloch, Composed By: Anonymous, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Score: Rowallan, Composed By: Francis Pilkington, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Words By: William Shakespeare, Composed By: Anonymous, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Score: Robert Gordon of Straloch, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Score: Folger Dowland MS, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Composed By: Anonymous, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Score: Rowallan, Baritone Vocals: Jonathan Hugh-Jones, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Words By [My Bonny Lass]: Thomas Lodge (2), Words By [O Sweet Oliver]: William Shakespeare, Composed By: Anonymous, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Words By: Alexander Montgomerie, Composed By: Anonymous, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Score: Robert Gordon of Straloch, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Composed By: John Johnson (8), Lute: Gordon Ferries, Lute: Jonathan Hugh-Jones, Arranged By: Gordon Ferries, Composed By: Philip Rosseter, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Score: Jane Pickeringe MS, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Composed By: Anonymous, Guitar [4-Course Renaissance Guitar]: Gordon Ferries, Composed By: Andrew Blackhall, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Words By: Alexander Montgomerie, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Words By: William Shakespeare, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Words By: William Shakespeare, Composed By: Anonymous, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Score: Rowallan, Composed By: Thomas Campion, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Composed By: Anonymous, Lute: Gordon Ferries, Score: Robert Gordon of Straloch, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Words By: Alexander Montgomerie, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Score: Jane Pickeringe MS, Composed By: Anonymous, Guitar [4-Course Renaissance Guitar]: Gordon Ferries, Score: Braye MS, Composed By: Anonymous, Ensemble: Fires Of Love, Soprano Vocals: Frances Cooper, Words By: William Shakespeare, Labelcode DELP34129.2 (DCD34129), Recorded At St Margaret's Chapel, The Gillis Centre, Edinburgh, Phonographic Copyright (p) Delphian Records Ltd., Copyright (c) Delphian Records Ltd., Recorded By Delphian Records Ltd.
