Description:	Die Binnenhandlung erzählt die Geschichte des wahnsinnigen Dr. Caligari, der mit Hilfe des Somnambulen Cesare eine kleine Stadt in Angst und Schrecken versetzt. Tagsüber läßt Caligari Cesare auf dem Jahrmarkt die Zukunft vorhersagen. Nachts begeht Cesare unter dem Einfluß seines Herrn furchtbare Morde. Eines Nachts wird Alan ermordet, nachdem Cesare ihm den nahen Tod prophezeit hatte. Alans Freund Francis ahnt, dass Dr. Caligari mit der Sache zu tun hat. Als Francis Freundin Jane von Cesare entführt wird, wird der Verdacht zur Gewißheit. Francis Verfolgung Caligaris endet in einer Irrenanstalt, deren Direktor Dr. Caligari ist.
