Description: | 2014 release, the second installment in the Wheedle's Groove series documenting Seattle's soul and funk scene from 1972 to 1987. Unlike VOLUME 1, Seattle's Soul scene did not stop in 1975. Wheedle's Groove Vol. II, documents the period from 1972 to 1987, when Funk was superseded by Disco and modern Soul. Heading into the '80s, artists in the Emerald City caught wind of the hip-hop and electro scenes that were growing in bigger cities across America, and gave the music their own distinct spin. Separated from the major centers of Soul music, Seattle was a scene that developed out of the gaze of the mainstream music industry, but one that moved just as fast. Seattle's size and location had a great effect on it's sound. Artists on the scene were accustomed to playing small, discreetly segregated club shows and pressing short runs of 45s for local radio stations.Packaged in a gatefold card sleeve, inner sleeve for the CD, 48 page booklet and Obi strip."Seattle Funk, Modern Soul & Boogie 1972-1987" (Wheedles Groove Volume II) is a captivating CD compilation that dives deep into the vibrant underground music scene of Seattle during the years 1972 to 1987. Curated by Light In The Attic / Cargo, this collection brings together rare and previously unreleased tracks from local artists who shaped the city?s unique blend of funk, soul, and boogie. Listeners are treated to infectious grooves, powerful vocals, and irresistible rhythms that capture an era often overshadowed by Seattle's later grunge explosion. This release stands as a testament to the city's rich musical diversity before it became synonymous with alternative rock. Light In The Attic is renowned for its meticulous archival work and high-quality reissues; their dedication ensures forgotten gems like these reach new audiences worldwide. |
