'I knew I wanted to do a Rock 'n' Roll record, ' Petty told Rolling Stone in April. 'We hadn't made a straight hard-rockin' record, from beginning to end, in a long time.' Petty and the Heartbreakers were one of the bands on the forefront of the heartland rock movement. The genre eschews the synthesizer-based music and fashion elements popularized in the 1980s. Alexander S. - 14/Feb/2021 With his CD, Tom Petty once again confirms that he always has something to say in modern music, and once again proves his ability to record exceptionally first-class albums. Indeed, looking back, you understand that the musician has not released a single record, even in difficult times, continuing to hold the high bar even now.
"Hypnotic Eye" is an extremely solid and strong album with a somewhat harsh, combative attitude, full of energy and charge. Some have compared it to the early work of Petty and the Heartbreakers. But what is the connection? If it is, it is very abstract. Hypnotic Eye is a modern, mature Petty with a powerful contemporary sound and pressing themes. Thick, crisp, structured sound; strong material with impeccable musical foundations and excellent, drivey performance. Rock, blues-rock, a variety of tricks and techniques - it all sounds great and strong. One of the outstanding things from here is the absolutely "tower-bearing" "Fault Lines".
According to Wikipedia, "Hypnotic Eye" was the first album by Petty and the Heartbreakers to reach number one on Billboard. So it’s like this: you don’t have to bend under the system and modern trends to get to the top of the charts.
