Description: | (2-CD set) The third (and fourth) album from Norwegian americana artist. Halden Electric went into the studio over a year ago with a handful of songs to record an acoustic album. The result was very good. But the singer and writer Anders Svendsen had the feeling that something was missing. Not knowing quite what the band decided to keep on working and go back into the studio. They came out again with another nine new songs. Heavy, electric and powerful. "There wasn't an instrument that wasn't plugged into something with a potential distortion," Anders says. That was the piece that made everything fall into place. Of course, "Women" was going to be a double. Two records that complement each other and together they create something really big. It's a song cycle filled with observations and musings about relationships, men and women. Mostly about women. The whole range is represented: faith, bitterness, joy and hope. Easily recognizable from our own lives, but often also with some new perspectives. "Women" is an impressive work from one of Norway's - no, Scandinavia's - most personal and talented songwriters. A Leonard Cohen and Neil Young melted into one. |
