Heute gilt Vivian Maier als eine der wichtigsten Street Photographers des 20. Jahrhunderts. Vivian Maier lebte als Kindermädchen in Chicago und New York. Sie galt als exzentrische Frau, die nie ohne ihre Kamera das Haus verließ. Mit den in ihre Obhut gegebenen Kindern unternahm sie Streifzüge auch in die Teile der Stadt, in der die weniger Privilegierten lebten.
