Upchurch had played with Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions and Jerry Butler, but headed to California to make a name for himself. This outstanding album was produced by Tommy LiPuma and was musically arranged by the late Donny Hathaway, who also provided much of the keyboard work here, along with the Crusaders' Joe Sample.
