Description:
In the early 1970s, the great Italian poet, philosopher, and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini (SALR, OR THE 120 DAYS OF SODOM) brought to the screen a trio of masterpieces of pre-modern world literature, Giovanni Boccaccio's THE DECAMERON, Geoffrey Chaucer's THE CANTERBURY TALES, and THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS (often known as THE ARABIAN NIGHTS) - and in doing so created his most uninhibited and extravagant work, which he titled his TRILOGY OF LIFE.
The "Trilogy of Life" Blu-Ray set from Criterion Collection brings together three of the most celebrated films by legendary Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini: "The Decameron," "The Canterbury Tales," and "Arabian Nights." These visually stunning adaptations explore themes of love, sexuality, and human nature with boldness and poetic flair. The Criterion Collection is renowned for its meticulous restorations and insightful supplements, making this edition a must-have for cinephiles. Pasolini, known for his provocative storytelling in works like "Accattone" and "Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom," collaborates here with acclaimed actors such as Franco Citti (noted for his roles in many Pasolini films), Ninetto Davoli (a frequent muse), Tom Baker ("Doctor Who"), Hugh Griffith ("Ben-Hur"), and Laura Betti ("Teorema"). Their performances bring to life tales that have influenced generations. This release features restored visuals, expert commentary, interviews with cast members including Adriana Asti (?Before the Revolution?), Tessa Bouché (?Les Camisards?), and an exploration into Pasolini?s enduring legacy.
