(originally released by Atlantic in 1957 as RAY CHARLES, and re-issued in 1962 with a new cover-sleeve). The album includes singles dating back as far as 1953, during Charles' most inspired years (all of the material was produced by the legendary team of Ahmet Ertegun and Jerry Wexler). The pieces on this recording - most of them written by Charles himself - feature a virtual who's who of fabulous musicians, such as Sam 'The Man' Taylor (tenor saxophone), Cecil Payne (baritone saxophone), Joe Bridgewater (trumpet), Mickey Baker (guitar), Paul Best (bass), and Panama Francis (drums), among others.
