Description:Nach 81 Tagen Einzelhaft wird Ai Weiwei unter Hausarrest gestellt. Er leidet an Schlafstörungen und unter Gedächnisverlust, 18 Kameras überwachen sein Studio und seine Wohnung, Polizisten folgen ihm auf Schritt und Tritt. Ai Weiwei ist gezeichnet von der Haft, doch er glaubt an die sich anbahnende Veränderungen der chinesischen Gesellschaft. Und er tut alles für ihre Verwirklichung. The Fake Case geht über eine Künstlerdokumentation im klassischen Sinn hinaus. Der Film tauscht konsequent eine externe Perspektive auf den Künstler Ai Weiwei und sein Werk gegen ein persönliches Porträt ein. Den Künstler eng begleitet konzentriert sich Anderas Johnsen über ein Jahr honweg auf die existentielle schwierige Situation Ai Weiwei nach seiner Haftentlassung. Der Film fängt das subtile und labile Geflecht aus staatlichen Zwängen und familiären Banden, aus Freundschaft und Isolation, aus Beklemmung und Lebensfreude ein. Sie bestimmern Leben und Arbeit Ai Weiweis in dieser extremen Lebenssituation.
