Soviet pianist Sviatoslav Richter was well known for the depth of his interpretations, virtuosic technique, and vast repertoire. He is widely considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. Presented on this release is a complete original LP containing recordings made by Richter in 1960 of piano sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven. To the legendary performances present on the original album, we have added Richter's 1959 recording of Sergei Prokofiev's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No.5, on which he is backed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Witold Rowicki.
