Description:
Digitally re-mastered edition of this 1985 album from the legendary classical rock band. Formed in 1979, Sky brought together the worlds of rock and classical music in a highly successful and inspiring way. Sky recorded their debut album at Abbey Road studios in the early months of 1979. Original guitarist John Williams departed the band in December 1983 and the group continued as a quartet. In 1985 they recorded the album The Great Balloon Race at studios in Australia and London. A fine, if overlooked record, it was in fact one of the most innovative of Sky's later albums. Unavailable for over 20 years, The Great Balloon Race has been newly re-mastered and the original album artwork is fully restored. The booklet features a new essay.
Sky were on this release: Herbie Flowers, Kevin Peek, Tristan Fry and Steve Gray.
Engineers: Soundwest Recorders - Ric Curtin; Magic Studios - Nick Flowers; Town House - Owen Davies; Air - Jon Jacobs.
This version is the remastered reissue from Esoteric Recordings (part of complete Sky discography reissue). Booklet includes a six page essay by Sid Smith in addition to copy from the original album release.
Conceived, researched and compiled by Mark Powell. Additional project coordination by Vicky Powell at Esoteric Arts. 24-bit digital remastering by Paschal Byrne at The Audio Archiving Company, London. Package design by Meriel Waissman.
