Alongside Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton was the most important exponent of New Orleans jazz. Unlike Armstrong, Morton's piano stylings and small group recordings enjoyed little commercial success until many of his tunes were adopted by the Big Bands of the late Thirties.
