Extra-Infos: 1971 Album
Description:Reissue of the original 'America' LP, which was intended as a double LP but released as a single LP because Fahey was persuaded that a double album would not sell. Tracks 1 to 9 are the previously unreleased tracks; tracks 10 to 13 make up the original LP. Recorded January 31, 1971. "This CD contains 98.6 percent of the music recorded by John for AMERICA, which was originally conceived of as a double album but released as a single LP. Given the technical constraints of the Compact Disc medium?79 minutes playing time?we were forced to edit two minutes from one track ("Mark 1:15"). The only alternative would have been to release a more expensive 2-CD set." [Note by Bill Belmont in the booklet.] "Fahey recorded 'Jesus is a Dying-Bed Maker' for 1971's "America", a track that only saw the light of day when the album was reissued on CD in 1998. (Where it was inadvertently, and amusingly, titled 'Jesus is a Dying Bedmaker', suggesting that, even in the throes of death, 'the Christ' made up a mean bed." [Glenn Jones in the liner notes for "The Great Santa Barbara Oil Slick" from 2004.] "Remastering, 1998. The copyrights in these sound recordings are owned by Fantasy, Inc and are licensed to Ace Records Ltd. (p) Fantasy, Inc (c) 1998 Fantasy, Inc Takoma Records marketed & distributed by Ace Records Ltd." The printed duration on the rear cover for track 12 (15:42) is inaccurate. The correct duration is listed above.
"America" is a remarkable CD album by the legendary guitarist John Fahey, released under the renowned Takoma label.
