Kurt Cobain loved to confound his fans' expectations during his brief stint in the spotlight. So when Nirvana gathered in New York City on November 18, 1993, he had another trick up his sleeve-an acoustic performance of the raw, ferocious grunge songs that propelled the band to stardom. The results were startling, and for many viewers a hidden depth to Cobain's songwriting talents were revealed as gentle renditions of NEVERMIND staples such as "On a Plain" and "Come As You Are were stripped down and performed for a specially invited audience. Among the many highlights is th performance of "Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam which was originally by Scottish indie-pop group longstanding favorite of Cobain's) the Vaselines; stunning opening in the form of the BLEACH-era track "About a Girl"; and a selection of songs originally performed by underground rock act the Meat Puppets. This release includes the entire performance, and is supplemented by some rehearsal footage for the sessions and a couple of tracks that weren't originally broadcast by MTV. Mastered at Precision Mastering in Los Angeles, CA. Mastered for DVD release at Gateway Mastering. Track 10 contains a short jam of [a261760]'s 'Sweet Home Alabama'. Track 13 contains a short jam of 'Scentless Apprentice', 'Sliver' and 'In Bloom'. Track 14 contains a short jam of 'Negative Creep'. Track 3 is a cover of a [a243289] song. Track 4 is a cover of a [a10263] song. Tracks 10 to 12 are covers of [a88468] songs, which first appeared on their [m=29825] album. Track 14 is a cover of a [a307307] song.

"Mtv Unplugged In New York" is a legendary live performance by Nirvana, captured on DVD and released by Geffen. Recorded in November 1993 for MTV's acclaimed "Unplugged" series, this concert stands as one of the most iconic moments in rock history. The setlist features stripped-down versions of Nirvana classics like "About a Girl," "Come As You Are," and haunting covers such as David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World." The raw emotion and vulnerability displayed during this session have cemented its place among music?s greatest live albums. Geffen Records, founded in 1980 by industry titan David Geffen, has been home to some of the biggest names in music including Guns N? Roses, Aerosmith, and Elton John. Their commitment to artistic innovation made them an ideal partner for groundbreaking acts like Nirvana. Nirvana consisted primarily of Kurt Cobain (vocals/guitar), Krist Novoselic (bass), and Dave Grohl (drums). Cobain was celebrated for his poignant songwriting and became a voice for Generation X before his untimely death; he also contributed to other influential projects such as Foo Fighters' early demos with Grohl. Novoselic later pursued various musical collaborations while advocating social causes. Dave Grohl went on to found Foo Fighters?one of modern rock?s most successful bands?and collaborated with legends like Paul McCartney and Queens of the Stone Age. The director behind this unforgettable performance was Beth McCarthy-Miller, renowned for her work on Saturday Night Live and numerous award-winning television specials.
