Description:
ACRONYM's latest release is the first recording devoted entirely to the instrumental music of Giovanni Valentini, who for more than twenty years was Hofkapellmeister of the Holy Roman Empire before fading into obscurity. This CD pairs selections from Valentini's published 1609 canzonas with his later manuscript sonatas (many containing strange chromaticism and metric eccentricities), and consists almost entirely of premiere recordings. Alex Ross (The Rest is Noise) selected Paradise: Instrumental Sonatas by Antonio Bertali, ACRONYM's 2014 release, as a "CD Pick"
