The story traces the struggles of it's hero (Fredric March) to claim a rightful inheritance in spite of his illegitimate birth. From his swashbuckling travels to his final departure for the New World, he is forced to overcome the scheming of Don Luis (Claude Rains) and Faith (Sondergaard), who aim to destroy him. Adding to his misery is the fact that, while he is away, his beloved Angela (de Havilland), mother to his son, becomes a glamorous opera star - and Napoleon's mistress. Anthony Adverse is magnificent entertainment - passionate, grand in scope and unforgettable.
"Anthony Adverse" is a classic 1936 American epic drama film based on the novel by Hervey Allen. This DVD edition, produced by Wara, brings to life the sweeping tale of adventure and romance set against the backdrop of late 18th-century Europe and America. The story follows Anthony Adverse as he navigates love, loss, and destiny across continents. Starring Fredric March in the titular role, Olivia de Havilland as Angela Giuseppe, Claude Rains as Don Luis, and Gale Sondergaard?who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance?the cast delivers powerful performances that have become legendary in cinema history.
