Ludwig van Beethoven moved to Vienna in 1792 and immediately began to attract notice, first as a bold an original pianist, legendary for his improvisations and notable for the new life that he poured into the genre of the solo piano sonata. The distinguished forte pianist, Trudelies Leonhardt, presents a programme of four of Beethoven's sonatas that span much of his career: From 1796 (op. 49, no. 2) to 1821 (op. 110). She uses an original fortepiano by Benign us Seidner, Vienna, c. 1815.
