"Shelter" is the fourth studio album by French band Alcest, released in CD format by Prophecy Productions. With "Shelter," Alcest takes a bold step away from their blackgaze roots and delves into lush dream pop and shoegaze soundscapes. The album envelops listeners with ethereal melodies, shimmering guitars, and introspective lyrics that evoke themes of escape and solace. Notable tracks like "Opale" and "Délivrance" showcase the band's evolution toward a more melodic, atmospheric direction while retaining emotional depth.
Alcest was formed in 2000 by multi-instrumentalist Neige (Stéphane Paut) and has become renowned for pioneering the fusion of black metal with shoegaze?a genre often referred to as blackgaze. Their previous albums such as "Écailles de Lune" and "Les Voyages de l'Âme" have received critical acclaim for their innovative soundscapes and emotive songwriting.
Prophecy Productions is an independent record label known for supporting artists who push musical boundaries within genres like post-rock, folk, darkwave, metal, and avant-garde music. Since its founding in 1996 in Germany, Prophecy has built a reputation for high-quality releases that emphasize artistic vision over commercial trends.
Shelter is a less inspired album in Alcest's discography... Not a bad album, but when compared to their other previous records, something is missed. Anyway, a good album.
