The albums follow the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers?? journey to become one of the best-selling bands in the world. Formed in 1967 by school friends Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Anthony Phillips, and Mike Rutherford, the band??s lineup solidified in the early ??70s with the addition of drummer Phil Collins and guitarist Steve Hackett. They established themselves as prog-rock innovators with albums like Trespass (1970) and Selling England by the Pound (1973).
After Gabriel??s departure in 1975, Collins took over as frontman. By the late ??70s, the band had transformed into a pop-oriented trio, scoring hits with ??Follow You Follow Me? and ??Misunderstanding? from And Then There Were Three... (1978) and Duke (1980).
Each member pursued successful solo careers in the ??80s while Genesis dominated international charts with a string of six platinum and multi-platinum albums, including Abacab, Genesis, and Invisible Touch. In 1991, We Can??t Dance marked Collins?? final studio album with the band. Banks and Rutherford returned in 1997 with singer Ray Wilson for Calling All Stations, the group??s final studio album.
Foxtrot (1972) remains a landmark in prog rock and includes the epic ??Supper's Ready,? a 23-minute suite showcasing Genesis?? ambitious compositional style and lyrical depth. The album charted at No. 12 on the UK.
