Track 1 was originally titled "Wicca". Its opening is sampling Claudio Campos, a Capoeira master, speaking in Portuguese. He recites an adaptation of the Wiccan precept of the Threefold Law which translates back to English as:
"Be aware to the rule of thirds. What you give will return to you. You have to learn this lesson. You only receive what you deserve"."Third" is the third studio album by the acclaimed British band Portishead, released on CD format by Island Records. After an eleven-year hiatus since their previous self-titled release, "Third" marks a bold evolution in Portishead?s sound, blending haunting electronic textures with experimental rock influences and minimalistic arrangements. The album features standout tracks such as "Machine Gun," "The Rip," and "We Carry On," each showcasing Beth Gibbons? emotive vocals and the group?s signature atmospheric production. Portishead, formed in Bristol in 1991, are pioneers of trip-hop?a genre they helped define alongside Massive Attack and Tricky. Their debut album "Dummy" won the Mercury Prize in 1995 and remains a landmark recording for its innovative fusion of hip hop beats, jazz samples, and cinematic moodiness. Island Records is one of the most influential labels in music history, known for nurturing groundbreaking artists across genres?from Bob Marley to U2?and continues to be at the forefront of musical innovation. |
