Description:Jukebox Explosion by Jon -Blues Explosion- Spencer, released 25 October 2007. This version of Jukebox Explosion comes as a 1xCD. - ..EXPLOSION
Formed in 1991 and taking cues from rock, punk, R&B, garage, hardcore, and hip hop idioms, while transcending the limitations of each, the Blues Explosion created a new sound which they've spent the last 16 years honing and redefining. Their music is as deft and bold and life-affirming as the Meters, the Magic Band, or the Birthday Party. Beginning in 1992, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion earmarked songs from their recording sessions for their Jukebox Single Series on in the Red. The singles, which were based on a similar series done by rockabilly legend Charlie Feathers in the 1970s, featured some of most incendiary, hyper-charged tunes the band ever cut. From their spastic take on Chain Gang's 'Son of Sam' to 'Ghetto Mom' (the final single from 2002) these seven-inch sides always showcased the band's full-throttle punk rock side. Now, for the first time, all five out-of-print singles have been collected in one place on Jukebox Explosion, along with eight previously unheard rarities from the band's early days that are every bit as action-packed, frantic, and furious.
Material collected from a variety of sessions, mostly previously released on 7" records. Tracks 1 & 10 from In The Red Jukebox series #1. Tracks 2 & 11 from jukebox single #2. Tracks 3 & 13 from jukebox single #3, recorded at Easley Studios in Memphis TN during 'Extra Width' album sessions, mixed in NYC. Tracks 4 & 12 previously unreleased: planned as third in jukebox series but aborted due to threatened legal action. Track 12 recorded at VPRO session in Europe. Tracks 5 & 14 from limited edition 7" (100 pressed) given away at Blues Explosion's 3rd anniversary show in Hoboken, NJ. Tracks 6 & 15 released in Brazilian label Barulho Del Mal during 1995 tour of Brazil. Tracks 7 & 16 from jukebox single #4. Recorded during the 'Now I Got Worry' LP sessions. Track 8 released split across 2 sides of limited (50 copies pressed) single given away to Sassy Magazine contest winners in 1994. Track 9 & 17 from jukebox single #5, recorded during the 'Plastic Fang' LP sessions. Track 18, claimed in the booklet as a backing track prepared for a never-manifested Saturday Night Live appearance, begins with the listed song, followed by some seconds of silence, then an unlisted song generally called "I Am Tupac" and a radio ad for the 'Now I Got Worry' album.
