Description:Harum Scarum is an album by Joe & Shark Gideon, released in 2009. The album is a rock CD. -
2009 debut album from stunning new brother and sister Indie Rock power duo, formerly of Bikini Atoll and currently one of Nick Cave's favorite bands. Joe Gideon provides guitar and unique, half-spoken lead vocals, telling darkly hilarious tales of his trips around the world (he once judged a Miss Bolivia contest!), while sister Viva provides backing on drums, keyboards and eight-track. She used to be a 'rhythmic gymnast', competing at the Barcelona Olympics and winning a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games. The sibling duo were described recently by Time Out as 'one of the best live acts we've seen all year.' Influential Irish magazine, Hot Press, recently designated them one of the Bands to Watch in 2009. Nine tracks.

After the London-based post-rock band BIKINI ATOLL was disbanded in 2006, Joe Gideon Seifert and his younger sister Viva Seifert formed a duo JOE GIDEON & THE SHARK. Gideon played bass, guitar and sang; Viva played drums, keyboards, percussion, programmed and did some back-vocals. Released in 2009 by Bronzerat Records, “Harum Scarum” was their first full-length album, which followed two singles. Every track on the album tells a story in non-rhyming verse and in an argot drawn from the ’30-50 Beatnik surreal novels, while musically the songs are close to Swamp-Rock, Alternative Blues-n-Americana. The lyrics in an album gain as much importance as the music itself. This is an astonishing combination, somewhat in-between Nick Cave, Wovenhand and The Black Keys… especially if you dig into lyrical senses. The album turns ethereal and fleshly, innocent and cynical, sometimes dark humorous. It showcased an inspired new band with definitely original vision of Life and Humanity. Recommended.
