Yuriy P. - 13/Jan/2022 5 of 5 Stars!
“Fear Of The Dark” is one of the classic discs by Iron Maiden. It is called the last classic album of this great band. In fact, it is so, but the group has not changed its style to this day, which is very pleasing. This is the last studio work in Bruce Dickinson's band until 2000. So, in addition to the magnificent art on the cover of the disc, we have 12 excellent pieces. Some people find a weak hit on this album, but I just can't understand people like that. We are listening to a group that plays HEVI-METAL! In my opinion, the concept of "hit" is applicable in the last place to metal music, and even more so to this album. Because there are 12 absolute metal masterpieces on it. Playing technique, emotions, vocals, a somewhat gloomy atmosphere - beyond praise! The sound has softened a little compared to the previous album, but this does not mean anything bad. The title of the album fully justifies itself. 1) "Be Quick Or Be Dead" immediately unleashes a charge of its energy and power on you! Furious vocals, great rhythm section, great solos ... "Be fast - or be dead!" 2) "From Here To Eternity" is a great mid-speed number full of drive and endless energy! No less excellent rhythm section and solo than the first song. 3) "Afraid To Shoot Strangers" is an amazing ballad! Its peculiarity is an atmosphere full of darkness and fear, very beautiful guitar solos. The melody suddenly turns into a fast shockwave, where Bruce just "shoots out" words. 4) "Fear Is The Key" is a great philosophical theme about life. Very nice guitar playing somewhere in the middle. 5) "Childhood's End" is a sad theme against war and suffering. Immediately, the guitar melody begins to "flow", and then an alarming drum roll (which I really like) enters. Then we hear the sharp intro of the rhythm section with very emotional vocals. In the chorus - drums and vocals again. Very beautiful melodies. Here Bruce sings about how much he would like to end all human suffering and war, but reminds us that the hotbed of all ugliness is human selfishness and greed, as evidenced by these words: “Musty waters, pollution and decay. The looming threat of disease, will we ever understand? " 6) "Wasting Love" is another great ballad that has become legendary in metal. Beautiful melody, deep meaning of the lyrics. People! Take care of your family and friends! Don't lose love! 7) "The Fugutive" - another action movie, decorated with vocal combinations of semi-screaming and clear voice from Bruce Dickinson. 8) "Chains Of Misery" is an energetic song full of "desperate emotions", virtuoso solos and beautiful vocals. 9) "The Apparition" immediately begins with the intro of the rhythm section and Bruce's vocals, and so it goes on its own wave, although the melodic variation is not excluded here. A bit of a simple song, but in this case it's its purest virtue - it makes the album more varied, contrasting a bit with other things. 10) “Judas Be My Guide” is an action movie that has drive, melody, and everything in the spirit of Maiden's fighters, it seemed to me a little short, but the integrity of the song is not lost from this. 11) "Weekend Warrior" is a medium-speed action movie, quite varied both in vocals and in guitar sound. The topic, in my opinion, reflects a protest against human lies and falsehood. 12) "Fear Of The Dark" is the heart and soul of this album, a beautiful traditional epic. A wonderful song, a "golden jewel", of which the Maiden, fortunately, have a lot. There is no point in describing - listen and enjoy !!
