Recorded on September 15, 1957 at the Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey. All transfers from the analog tapes to digital were made at 24-bit resolution. Tracks 1 to 5 originally issued as BST 81577. The piano solo on both takes of "Blue Train" is identical. The solo was taken from the alternative take and inserted into the master take at the time of release. The real piano solo from the master take has not survived. Blue Train is a studio album by John Coltrane which was released in January 1958 by Blue Note Records. Coltrane's playing exhibits the move toward what would become his signature style. His solos are more harmonic or "vertical" and lines arpeggiated. His timing was often apart from or over the beat, rather than playing on or behind it.

You just can't go wrong with Blue Train. But there are so many versions, two or three LP versions and two or three CD versions. This one (RVG) is superb.
