This album features the first professional line up of The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen "Moe" Tucker, plus Nico singing on three tracks ("Femme Fatale", "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "I'll Be Your Mirror"). Most of the songs were recorded in April 1966 in a run-down recording studio before the band even had a contract. They were turned down by big-name labels such as Columbia, Atlantic Records and Elektra. Since Verve had just decided to include alternative music to their label, they picked up the group's recordings, put Polish on some of the tunes and added "Sunday Morning", which was the prospective single for radio play45th Anniversary Version

Augusto D. - 14/Apr/2025 An essential recording from the VU. This first one album stands out because of Nico singing and contributing songs, although Lou Reed takes all the songwriting credit. Our insecure hero, dismissed the stunning frontwoman no long after issueing this record, which was a pitty.
The pressing seems okay, althoug it sound a tad scratchy, mostly on each side runout.
Cover art is nice. Alas, the vinyl cut throught the sleeves splitting the upper spine.
| | Alexander S. - 16/Jan/2020 Great album. Absolutely indescribable atmosphere! Velvet Underground created simply amazing music, laying the foundation for such a musical direction as alternative rock. This album seemed to have come out of nowhere; Without imitating anyone, the musicians simply played their music as if they were the first group on earth, offering a glimpse into the world of Velvet Underground. A very interesting creative union of Lou Reed, John Cale and Krista Peffgen, who later left the group (sorry ...), and also, in my opinion, a very successful cover, drawn by Andy Warhol. I especially liked "Sunday Morning", "Femme Fatale", "Venus in Furs" - the most calm and melodic tracks. Other, faster things, also impressions absolutely do not spoil, introducing the necessary variety. Nobody has played such a thing before them. And hardly anyone will play.
| | WAN JUNG L. - 17/Jul/2017 Andy Warhol design banana symbol on the cover, it can peel to reveal pink meat of banana inside, collectible. beautiful and commemorative, and of course their amazing music.
