Description:Miles Davis and Milt Jackson only recorded together on a few occasions, but those collaborations always produced superb music. Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants includes one such collaborative effort â??a unique 1954 quintet session that also features the great Thelonious Monk on piano. These are the only existing studio recordings presenting Miles and Monk together. - .. GIANTS // 180GR.
Vinyl LP pressing of this release from the jazz graet. Here are tracks from one of the truly classic sessions, in which a combination of jazz giants gathered in Rudy Van Gelder's studio on a chilly Christmas Eve in 1954. With Thelonious Monk and three quarters of the Modern Jazz Quartet (Jackson, Heath, and Clarke) as his accomplices, Miles Davis blends sophisticated harmonic knowledge with raw, spontaneous invention to produce extraordinary music. This is a strong addition to any jazz collection. The sessions for this album were eventually released in 1959. One track,"'Round Midnight", comes from the sessions by Davis's new quintet in 1956 which resulted in Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet and three other albums to fulfill Davis's contract with Prestige.
Recorded on December 24, 1954 and October 26, 1956 (B1). Released early 1958, simulated stereo copies do exist. ? 1989 © 1956 Track B3 was previously released as a 10 inch, 16rpm disc.
