| | Description: | The Jefferson Airplane's sixth album Volunteers was released in 1969, a mere two year since their monumental psychedelic hippie rock album Surrealistic Pillow. A politically charged album, Volunteers mainly dealt with the injustice of the Vietnam war.
Besides its lyrical content causing controversy, the album was ahead of its time on a technological level as well. At the time, Volunteers was one of the first albums to be recorded on a state-of-the-art sixteen track tape recorder, a picture of which can be seen on the backside of the album sleeve.
Musical collaborators include Stephen Stills and David Crosby. Volunteers is a crucial Jefferson record that ranks among the top albums of this seminal San Francisco psychedelic rock group. - INCL. BONUS TRACKSWe Can Be Together; Hey Frederick; Eskimo Blue Day, and the rest of this 1969 classic are joined by five unreleased live tracks from the Airplane's Nov.28-29, 1969 gigs at the Fillmore East, including Good Shepherd; Somebody to Love; Plastic Fantastic Lover; Wooden Ships, and Volunteers. Up against the wall!Originally released as RCA Victor LSP-4238. Mastered at Sundazed Studios, Coxsackie, NY. Durations are taken from the CD. Tracks 3 and 6 are about 15 and 30 seconds longer, respectively, than the durations given in the booklet. Tracks 11 to 15 are previously unreleased and were recorded November 28 and 29, 1969 at the Fillmore East.
