One of the most memorable live recordings in jazz history, featuring Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus and Max Roach. This phenomenal edition includes all of the original tracks recorded by the Quintet at Toronto's Massey Hall, without the Mingus, overdubbed bass added later. 24-bit remastered. The Jazz Factory. 2003.
Recorded at Massey Hall, Toronto (Canada), May 15, 1953. High Resolution 24 bit edition. These original analog masters have been digitally transferred at 24bit resolution, processed using Sonic Solutions NoNoise technology and mastered to 16 bit for CD using prism SNS Noise Shaping. This edition includes bonus tracks and comprehensive liner notes. It includes all of the original tracks recorded by [a=The Quintet] on May 15, 1953. None of the tracks featuring Mingus' overdubbed bass are included on the CD, as it is widely agreed that the overdubbing damaged the sound quality of the horns and the drums. The line up printed on the booklet contains a mistake in the track numbers (one track was forgotten and offset everything coming after). What's listed here are the correct line ups and track numbers, not what's printed on the booklet.
