Description: | The creative guitarist Grant Green(1931-79) joined forces with the underrated tenor saxophonist Ike Quebec(1918-63) for this excellent album recorded in New Jersey on December 11, 1961 & March 1, 1962.
With Green & Quebec were a superb rhythm section of Sonny Clark(piano); Sam Jones(bass) & Louis Hayes(drums) playing nine memorable tracks(including one alternative take of the title tune).
Quebec was in fine form despite nearing the end of his life and has a good rapport with Green. Highlights include impressive interpretations of 'Someday My Prince Will Come', 'Back In Your Own Back Yard', 'My One And Only Love' & Charlie Parker's 'Cool Blues'.
'Born To Be Blue' is one of the finest BLUE NOTE recordings of Grant Green & Ike Quebec which deserves a place in any serious modern jazz collection. - INCL. 2 BONUS TRACKSDouble Feature. Repackaged.? &© 2013 Jazz Wax Records
