Composed in 1976, Music for 18 Musicians has become a cornerstone of 20th century repertoire in general and percussion music in particular, and has been cited as the seed that ultimately spawned ambient trance music created by admiring practitioners like Orbital, Aphex Twin and the Orb. Originally available only as a volume in Steve Reich's 1997 10-CD boxed set, this new digital recording of the composer's signature opus is now available as a single-disc release.
Recorded October 1996 at the Hit Factory, New York City Mixed November 1996 and January 1997 at the Hit Factory, New York City Special thanks to Bob Hurwitz, Karina Beznicki, David Bither, Peter Claney and Kate Seward. Total Playing Time: 67:42 This new recording is eleven minutes longer than the original [r1164585]. Recorded October 1996, the piece was originally composed twenty years earlier in 1976.
