The seventh studio album by American progressive metal band Dream Theater, released on November 11, 2003. Inspired by the audience response to Dream Theater's heavier songs while on tour, in the Chaos in Progress documentary, Portnoy says that they wanted Train of Thought to be a "balls to the wall" album with heavier, darker riffing, exposing them to a number of new metal fans.

This is definitely Dream Theater's heaviest album in their current catalogue. Because I'm more metal head, this is my favorite DT album. Also I like longer songs, and on this album there's five songs more than 10 minutes long. Anyway it's Dream Theater's album and deserves nothing less than five stars.

Cover is unique. there is only one eye. I don't think it is very good. Anyway, from this album, dream theater 's sound is more heavy and guitar is more technical. So I love this album than previous album.

Well, gentlemen, I, as a fan of Dream Theater (and progressive style in general), simply cannot critically / negatively relate to their music. However, I confess: this disc surprised me. Perhaps this is the most difficult and experimental album in their discography. Heavy in terms of music and lyrics. Virtually all songs are dominated by the guitar, which is quite natural - John, as always, is great. Jordan Rudess has a few keyboard games, but they are located exactly where they should be. I never doubted the mastery of Mike Portnoy, John Myung and James LaBree. The album consists almost entirely of so-called "militants", the only exception is the short song "Vacant", acting as an outlet, allowing you to take a breath. We should also mention the instrumental "Stream of Consciousness" - in my opinion, an amazing thing, a real highlight of the album. As a result: the excellent work of great Musicians, demonstrating the obvious changes in the sound of one of my favorite bands. Changes that gave musicians to understand in which direction they should continue to move / progress. Bravo, Dream Theater!

Musically, it is perhaps the heaviest album from the progressive metal flagbearers. Album highlights: As I Am, Honor Thy Father, In The Name Of God

Train Of Thought was missing in my Dream Theater Discography. Now I am owner original CD, so enjoy it. Content of album is little harder, but why not? Very good album!
