Description: | Concertos by Peter Eotvos, released 4 January 2017.
This version of Concertos comes as a 1xCD. - Since the beginning, Péter Eötvös' musical thinking has been characterized by a strong affinity for the stage. Although this is apparent in his instrumental works, perhaps the most dramatic instrumental genre - the concerto - did not occupy an important place in his early creative period. But in the time that has passed from his first large opera, Three Sisters (finished in 1997), the concerto is perhaps the most important and most characteristic of his genres. The three concerti on this disc were written in three consecutive years, all to commission. This CD includes Seven, a violin concerto written in 2006 in memory of the seven astronauts who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy; Levitation, commissioned by the Canary Islands Music Festival and premiered by Sabine & Wolfgang Meyer with the Finnish Radio Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo; and CAP-KO, written in 2005 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Béla Bartók's birth.Total Time: 62:35
