Wynton-Kelly-Set (EMSC1165) hat sich in den Jahren seit seiner Veröffentlichung zu einem unserer
Bestseller entwickelt. Wynton hat in den fünfziger und frühen sechziger Jahren nicht viele Alben unter
seinem eigenen Namen veröffentlicht, und wenn, dann waren sie wichtige Ereignisse im Jazzkalender.
Wir haben geduldig auf eine Gelegenheit gewartet, ein zweites Set zu veröffentlichen, konnten aber
das vierte Album einfach nicht finden. Kürzlich ergab sich die Gelegenheit, als wir auf der Suche nach
gro�en unbesungenen Trompetern für unsere Classic Jazz Instrumentalists-Reihe (EMSC1293) auf
ein Album des jungen 22-jährigen Trompeters Don Sleet stie�en. Wir waren beeindruckt von der
erstaunlichen Band, die dieser junge Mann zusammengestellt hatte: Wynton Kelly, Jimmy Heath, Ron
Carter und Jimmy Cobb, keine schlechte kleine Combo! Als wir über diesen jungen Trompeter lasen,
der nach dem Vorbild von Kenny Dorham und Art Farmer geformt wurde, mit ein wenig lyrischem Miles
als Zugabe, entdeckten wir, dass dies das einzige Album war, das er unter seinem eigenen Namen
aufnahm, und dass es jetzt ziemlich schwierig ist, es aufzuspüren. Don hatte leider nie die Chance, ein
weiteres Album aufzunehmen und starb 1986 im Alter von 47 Jahren in der Dunkelheit. - PIANO INTERPRETATIONS/PIANO/KELLY BLUE/SOMEDAY MY.."Four Classic Albums" is a CD compilation by the renowned jazz trumpeter Wynton Kelly, released by Avid Jazz.
